Nomads

Reflections and preparations

I’m watching the film Nomadland through a new lens and new filters. Didi and I watched it together when it came out on streaming because it was so well reviewed. We joked about this kind of nomadic lifestyle being how we retired, but now it’s the lifestyle we are seeking, at least to start. We need to escape, we need to heal and we need to reconnect with ourselves and we need to reground.

There’s lots to do between now and our departure, but part of what keeps us moving step by step is knowing that we have a drive and a mission to create safe spaces to make art, express things that are hard to express, and go be our authentic and fabulous selves even if it scares the locals. Tomorrow or Tuesday I will go sort out more of my studio and get my haircut to something that suits me better than the mess it is now.

We have an estimate to get rid of all of the stuff that nobody wants to take off of our hands, hopefully the stuff from my studio can be used by people who want to create. Over the next 10 days we will be giving away anything we can, and chucking the rest. We are coming back the same way we landed with 4 suitcases (and some of my sculptures packed and waiting to be shipped when we have a more permanent address).

We are both scared to death and excited as hell. Watch out USA because we are coming back to change whatever corner of the world we visit or land on permanently.
