Learning Self Care

Priorities are difficult to manage

Didi and I figured out that we are doing a lot of things wrong in our attempt to heal, make art, and find our place in this new world!

We are happy, productive and relaxed when we allow ourselves to pull over and park in some of the most beautiful places we see. But, after a day or two the thoughts start creeping in of ‘We really should be doing X!’, or ‘There’s errands and things we should get done and then we can retreat and relax.’ The problem is there are always errands, tasks, or chores that need to be done. We end up breaking camp, driving to the next city, doing the things that seem so important, and then retreating again.

When we get to the next spot we decompress the first day, and then can be creative until the phone call or text comes in that says we need to go take care of one more thing. It wouldn’t be so bad if their weren’t huge distances between each new thing. Most recently it was a trip from Cortez, CO to Pueblo, CO. Along the way we encountered 2 of the scariest drives I remember, at least from behind the wheel of an RV.

So, we have decided that we need to change this for our own sanity. From where we are now we have over a week before we have to be somewhere, on the other side of the state, and this time we are going to take it slow. We are going to restock, take care of a few things that need a larger city, and then park for a few days in a wild place and breathe. If an emergency comes up we will of course respond, but for the little things they will have to wait until we are ready to move on. Hopefully this will allow us the get a bit of an energy boost, before some big things happen next week.

We’ll let you know when we are on the other side of things about how it went! Wish us luck!
