Today is finally the first day of us beginning our portion of our journey. This past month we have spent with family, trying to take care of business like getting our license’s, the title and plates for Priscilla, signing up for healthcare and other supports.

We found a lovely campsite on the Mississippi River, right on the border of Illinois and Iowa. Today was spent tackling to do lists, starting some cleaning, and for me having a chance to cook. I have found that cooking is a creative outlet for me and a way to express my love for Didi, by making yummy things that she enjoys. Today I made a simple flatbread that I stuffed with cheese and fire roasted green chillies. I then made a large pot of lentils and veg that can be enjoyed either on it’s own or as a base for something else.

Didi tackled a bunch of the wiring things that were needed. We now have a USB outlet that will work with our batteries, so we don’t need the generator. She also got the controller and everything wired so we can start deploying our solar panels when we are parked in a spot without outside electric. Didi did an amazing job, and may have even figured out why our house batteries don’t charge the way they should when driving.

We are planning on heading to Pueblo, CO first when we leave here because we saw so many opportunities to connect with communities there. We will also establish a PO Box for mail so that we don’t always have to get mail from Craig. Until we have a permanent location this is our best option. At some point soon I will go take a driving test either in Pueblo or Colorado Springs, so that Didi doesn’t always have to be in the copilot seat. I was really worried about being able to deal with driving again, but I love driving this beast and I got this!

We are working on our potential workshop ideas and figuring out what we need to start with. The next step is searching in the areas we want to stop in and find groups or places to hold the workshops. After that it’s lots of legwork and hustling to bring people to us.

We both know realistically we will need some side hustles, but we are hoping to find them virtually so that we can do from anywhere.

We have lots of support on this journey and are going to try and make everyone proud. Keep an eye on this page!
